Face powders and foundations are not as important to me as lipsticks. I can go to work or meet up with friends with just moisturizer and sunblock on my face but I can’t do the same without applying lipstick. I feel incomplete without that hint of color. Probably because of my lip’s discoloration, my confidence to go lipstick-less vanished. Since powders and foundations are not that important to me, I rarely buy them and I would just often throw old or expired ones that are half or barely-used. However, there are times when I want to look a bit more polished so I would go hunting for a good face powder.
My latest catch is this Neutrogena SkinClearing Mineral Powder. It’s my first time to buy a Neutrogena make up (I have used Neutrogena skin care products before) so I’m quite excited how this one fares…

Review
Packaging and Appeal. The powder comes in a white round compact with two compartments; one for the powder itself and the other is for the sponge and where the mirror is also placed. The sponge is double-sided; orange side for sheer coverage and white side for fuller coverage.
I love that this powder is not chalky and not messy to apply particularly when using a powder brush.
Scent. The powder may not be unscented but it smells alright for me. It is actually too light you will not notice it unless of course you place the compact right in front of your nose.
Pigmentation. I got the shade 20 which is natural ivory. At first I was hesitant to get it as some powders/shades tend to oxidize on me but I’m glad that the shade of this one stays the same even hours after application. This powder doesn’t provide full coverage even if the white side of the sponge is used. This tends to be sheer so if you are looking for something on the heavier side, this may not be for you. Concealer should also be used in conjunction with this powder if you wish to hide those dark spots
Texture. The texture of this powder is great. As what I have said, it is not chalky and can be applied easily. Blending has never been my problem with this as well.

Staying Power. The staying power is a couple of hours or so if you have oily face or tends to sweat a lot. Based on reviews, this powder is not highly recommended to those with dry skin and I agree with that. I have tried using this without applying moisturizer and it made my skin look dull and old. If you have dry skin and still want to use this, I suggest you moisturize prior to application. Moisturizing at night is ideal too!
Ingredients. Neutrogena SkinClearing Mineral Powder boasts Salicylic acid as its main ingredient and we all know that salicylic acid is an effective acne medication. However, this shouldn’t be considered or used as the only acne medication. I still suggest going to the dermatologist and using necessary acne medication.
Price. This is the most expensive powder I currently own. I got this for Php 650 from a friend who sells US brand make up since there is no neutrogena counter near me and I bet if there is, it would probably cost more than that.
Availability. As what I have said, there is not Neutrogena counter near me. I can only find limited skin care products like facial wash and sunblock but no cosmetics. Online purchase is necessary.

Will I purchase this product again?
Yes.
Yes.
I've always wondered about salicylic in powdered products. Parang mind-boggling for me. I keep imagining it like SPF in cosmetics, you're not supposed to treat it as your sole sun protection product. In this case, a sole acne medication as you mentioned.
